Which Football Club Has The Best Squad Going Into The 2019-20 Season?

Deciding the order of the best squad was actually more difficult than I actually expected but here is my attempt. I also took into account the quality of the manager who impacts the team just as much as the players .

Following a dreadful season in 2018/19 where the Galacticos finished 19 points behind champions Barcelona and embarrassingly crashed out to Ajax in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, Florentino Perez has invested over €300m into the Real Madrid squad.

This saw new signings such as Belgian star Eden Hazard and Frankfurt’s talisman Luka Jovic, Lyon’s Ferland Mendy, FC Porto’s Éder Militão and Rodrygo Goes to the ranks. Real Madrid could line up with the front 3 of Hazard, Jovic, and Vincious and with my assumptions that these signees hit the ground running, the frontline would be nothing short of being productive.

The midfield, however, is a key weakness at the Bernabeu and could cost them the major trophies they desire. At the back Real Madrid have begun to wane due to the aging back-line and the poor injury record of Varane.

Zidane – A decent manager who knows how to motivate his team but does lack the tactical nous of other managers on this list.

The 2018/19 was an underwhelming season for the Blaugrana in which their hopes of a treble was destroyed at Anfield and by Valencia. This prompted the excellent signing of De Jong who could massively improve the midfield allowing them to control the biggest games.

The front 3 of Suarez, Messi, , and Griezmann may on the face of it sound quite exciting yet it’s unlikely Valverde would be able to construct a system that gets the best of them. As a result, the output of “S.M.G.” may not be as high as expected. Defensively they are still suspect with the bombing runs from Alba leaving the Spanish club vulnerable particularly on the break.

Valverde – The worst manager on this list and could easily ruin this talented team. He has very little tactical intuition and creativity and players are wasted under his management.

3. Juventus
Juventus Best Squad
De Ligt Unveiled

With the appointment of Sarri, a new brand of attacking football is expected in Turin. It’s been an excellent summer for the old lady securing Aaron Ramsey and Rabiot on a free.

The signing of De Ligt is another excellent add on and I feel Juventus will adapt to Sarriball far quicker than Chelsea. A midfield of Pjanic, Rabiot, and Ramsey has an excellent mix of dynamism techniques and intelligent. Under Sarri, these 3 could really blossom.

Personally seeing Ronaldo off the left, Costa on the right and Dybala as a “False 9” would be deadly. Yes individually Barcelona has a better front 3 but in terms of functioning well, Juventus front 3 would work together far better. The back four is perfect for Sarri with both Bonnuci and De Ligt being adept in playing out the back. The attacking output of Alex Sandro and Cancelo pose a dangerous threat against the opposition.

Sarri – I really like his style and when put to work effectively it is quite the thing to watch. However, the main criticism of his team is his lack of rotation but when he employs same strategy at Juventus, it could cost them in the latter stage.

2. Liverpool
Liverpool Best Squad
Liverpool Champions League

The 2018/19 season saw Liverpool miss out in the Premier League by a marginal point but they made up for it beating spurs to become European champions for the 6th time. No new major signing was done and the return of Oxlade-Chamberlain, ah well!

The midfield is a real working engine that is key to Klopp’s “gegenpressing” but with the addition of Keita and Fabinho they can now provide more creativity support to the front 3. Talking about the front 3 Salah, Mane and Firmino were not even playing at their best last year yet they were extremely effective.

Mane shone last year banging 22 league goals and Liverpool arguably has the best attack in Europe when In full form. At.the back, the full-backs Trent-Arnold and Andrew Robertson have an exceptional cross on them providing a ridiculous amount of chances for the front 3.

Virgil van Dijk has been imperious at the back adding a calm presence to the back-line and with Allison in goal, Liverpool are certainly more complete than any of the previous 3 on the list.

Klopp –  An amazing manager who has completely transformed Liverpool from a Europa league team to a European powerhouse who can consistently challenge for the biggest prizes. Because he sure has the best squad compared to the top 3.

1. Manchester City– The Best Squad?

Rodri (Credit: Bleacher Report)

Manchester City made history being the English team to win the domestic treble and Pep is demanding more. The signing of Rodri from Atletico is great and fills the hole Fernandino left when injured.

With Kevin De Bryune coming back from injury means the midfield will become even more controlling than last year. Manchester City midfield is easily the best in Europe and could dominate any team that comes their way. The front 3 could be anyone from Bernado Silva, Leroy sane, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Aguero or Gabriel Jesus.

That is quite frankly an embarrassing amount of riches of attacking talents. At the back, Manchester City has been impressive and the emergence of Laporte has really helped, and Ederson provides a great last wall of defense.

Pep – Best manager on the list? Yes. He is an exceptional visionary who gets the best out of his players. Ticks every box as a manager and is certainly one of the best managers of his generation.
