Take a ride with Ghana’s first all-girls skate crew. Skate Gal Club is a “baby” of Surf Ghana, co founded by Sandy Alibo and Kuukua Eshun, is the first Ghanaian skateboarding club for women.
SKATE GAL CLUB
After seeing the impact skateboarding organisations were having in France, Sandy Alibo was inspired to take up the project here in Ghana. She wants to create safe and empowering space for girls/women not just for skateboarding but also a platform for members to share their experiences as entrepreneurs.
At Skate Gal Club’s very first event, more than 60 women showed up. Alibo said…
“More than 60 women came to try skateboarding. The women who came are multi-talented, and that’s why this experience was wonderful. They all want to contribute to the event and make it grow.”Sandy Alibo
She continued by saying…
“People were scared to start, but as soon as they got on, they’d want to do it again and again. Even if they fell, they’d laugh.”Sandy Alibo
Alibo plans to invite a few famous female skateboarders from the U.S. and U.K. to lead workshops in the near future, but first, weekly meet ups and larger events similar in style to the launch which will take place every two months.
