Meet Christian Nyanor Ohene – IFA UK Regional Director of Ghana – The Institute of Financial Accountants UK in April 2020 appointed Mr Christian Nyanor Ohene as its first-ever Regional Director of Ghana for the institute since its inception to operate in Sub Saharan Africa.
The Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA), established in 1916, is an internationally recognized professional accountancy membership body. It is a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) the global accounting standard-setter and regulator.
The IFA is part of the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) of Australia Group, the world’s largest SME-focused accountancy group, with 37,000 members and students in 80 countries.
Members of the IFA and IPA work within micro and small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or in micro and small- to medium-sized accounting practices (SMPs) advising micro and SME clients.
Focusing on SMEs and SMPs
The focus is more on the growth and expansion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Small and Medium Practitioners (SMPs). The IFA and IPA recognize the role of SMEs and SMPs as vital wealth creators, as employers to more than half of the world’s private sector workforce and as the power behind vibrant urban and rural communities.
The IFA holds the interests of SMPs in the accounting profession in equal regard and are proud of the unique relationship with members, who predominantly come from a SME/SMP background.
As a professional accountancy body, the IFA aims to provide the very best support and guidance to members who operate within this arena, frequently tailoring policies and recommendations to meet the unique challenges and trading relationships associated with smaller business.
The aim is to continuously meet the needs of SMEs throughout the international market. They offer a range of services and benefits that have been specifically considered as part of the focus on supporting our members within the SME/SMP sector.

The IFA is also recognized by HM Treasury to regulate our members for the purposes of the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 and 2019 in UK.
Mr Christian Nyanor holds a Master of Commerce degree in Advanced Accounting from the University of Mumbai, India. He is a graduate of the Kumasi Technical University and has a Higher National Diploma from the Takoradi Polytechnic now Takoradi Technical University.
He is an Associate Financial Accountant (AFA) of the Institute of Financial Accountants, UK and a Member of the Institute of Public Accountants (MIPA) Australia. He is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and a member of ISACA.
Mr Nyanor who is also a certification holder from Indiaforensic as a Certified Forensic Accounting Professional (CFAP) and from EC-Council as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) has rich knowledge and practical experience of providing Accounting and Auditing services to Small and Medium Scale Enterprises. He is an entrepreneur and works as a Senior Auditing Assistant at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho. He has a keen interest in accounting and auditing and artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
As the Regional Director, he represents the institute in its core mandate of providing member services and ensuring utmost advice, support and guidance to members and other stakeholders.
Speaking with us, Mr Nyanor stated that he believes in the youth of today and their ability to hold leadership positions. He therefore called on all to rally behind him with support while he carries the mantle. He expressed that his availability to provide member services at all times to current and prospective members at any time.
Mr Nyanor concluded that the IFA and IPA, coming to Ghana for the first time, is willing to work hand-in-hand with other professional bodies in Ghana so as to ensure that both IFA and local organizations achieve mutual benefits.
