How To Make Your Facebook or Instagram Post More Accessible – Do you want your Facebook or Instagram post to reach millions of people?
Looking for a quick and easy way to optimize your Facebook or Instagram post?
These tips I’m about to share with you will increase the reach of your post as well as engagement.
How To Make Your Facebook or Instagram Post More Accessible
Photos – Also known as Alt Text, add a brief text description to the photos you share. Alt Text is spoken by screen readers to describe images to the visually impaired.
Keep it short and simple.
Animated GIFs – Make sure your GIFs flash no more than three times per second because these visuals can cause seizures for some people.
Videos – Include captions or transcripts with your videos. Transcripts are easy to create. These help people to watch your videos in noisy environments, quiet places or people without headphones.
These also help people with difficulty in hearing or deaf people.
Audio – Make sure you include text transcripts with your audio recordings. This will help people watch your videos in noisy environments, quiet places or people without headphones.
Colour – Texts are harder to read when they appear on top of pictures. So make sure your texts are over a solid, high-contrast background and make sure you increase the contrast between text and its background.
Hashtags – Make sure you capitalise the first letter of each word when using a hashtag. Example; #BlackLivesMatter instead of #blacklivesmatter. This makes it easier to read by people who are visually impaired.
Emojis – Do not create emojis using text. Example ( —\_ 🙂 ). These kind of emojis are hard for people to read or understand. Instead, use these 😊✌️🙏😥. This stands for 👍 “thumbs up”
Using these formats will improve accessibility. Many social media platforms have these in-built accessibility features, so make sure you use them.
