5 Ways on How to Keep Siblings from Killing Each Other During Quarantine – Sometimes, siblings are the worst. Sure, they’re family and are always there for you, but that doesn’t mean they don’t drive you crazy especially during quarantine.
During quarantine, being stuck at home with them can mean constant bickering. So if you’re in a household with multiple kids, here are some ways to stay sane.
Here are 5 Ways on How to Keep Siblings from Killing Each Other During Quarantine
Grant them Alone Times
Everyone needs alone time and if that means asking your children to spend time in their own rooms doing solitary activities, then so be it. It doesn’t matter what they do, even if it’s the same activity as their siblings. Learning to be alone is as important of a skill as learning how to be social.
Encourage them to find their own hobbies
This is geared toward younger siblings who might want to copy their older siblings. Encourage them to find their own interests or to make the interests that they “copy” from their older siblings their own. It’s okay if both kids like to read, but it doesn’t mean they have to be interested in the same types of books.
Give sharing a break
There is a lot of emphasis on sharing, cooperation, and general togetherness. But some kids aren’t extroverts and being around people can be emotionally draining. There aren’t enough experts out there touting the benefits of NOT sharing. During this time when we’re all in each others’ space, it’s okay to not want to share certain toys or games.
Let them argue it out
Sometimes, people just need to get whatever frustration they feel out of their systems. Some parents let their kids do this productively by enrolling them in martial arts classes or sports. But during quarantine, it’s not always a good idea to stop all arguments before they start. Kids need to know how to communicate with each other, so using your judgment, let them argue it out if they need to.
Kids often think that they are not at all like their siblings (or their parents, for that matter). However, since we’re all stuck inside, this might be a good time to point out some joint activities that they all enjoy and can do together. Even better if that activity also includes something else on this list!
