Have you been crucified with Christ? What is the proof of your claim to Christ and calling yourself a Christian, by the question, you ought to be crucified with Him to be deemed fit as a Christian! Are you a Christian?
‘I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. ‘ – Galatians 2:20
This is a bold statement that requires not just by speech but by deeds, evidence of the fruits of the Spirit being evident in your lifestyle. Are the fruits of the Spirit evident in your life?
What does it mean to be crucified with Christ? To be crucified with Christ means to have same fate as His death and resurrection, to suffer same as he suffered, then can you enjoy same glory with as co-heir of God’s throne. What behaviours did you leave behind in order to follow Christ? Are you still with those behaviours? Did you really get crucified with Christ?
Paul explained this in Romans 6:5-14
- ‘For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
- For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.
- For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.’
To be of Christ; a christian, you need to be of like mindedness! By extension you died with Him to be raised from the dead with Him. The old man here refers to your old self before your decision to be of Christ. This very old man had things that are not accepted by Christ, a lifestyle which Christ died for. This very old man is a slave, absolute slavery to sin(Master of the old man). Have you been crucified with Christ? If so, be like minded with Christ and live like Him.
Christ’s death bought and paid for the old man out of the slavery of its master called Sin. The old man is now brought into a new home and made new with new apparels and new identity, a new name and everything new. You do not work for the old master but for the new Master. You cannot live with the new Master and live life to please the old master. It is not acceptable to you nor anyone unless you are deceiving your own self and you never are a purchase of Christ nor an heir of His salvation. Have you been crucified with Christ? Let His identity be what you carry, an identity of Holiness.
To all accounts to be given or made to the new Master is pick up the ways of His house, obeying house rules and conforming to the dictates for what He says and commands(The Word of the LORD, GOD, The Bible). To give account(reckon), is to live to make profitable your purchase, make valuable the price of your salvation from the slavery of your old master; Sin. Have you been crucified with Christ? If so then be let your old master, sin be dead to you.
With all said and established, is the price paid to your old master(Sin) for your liberation not be enough reason to let the life of the shackles of your old master(sin) rule not over you? It is the things your mortal body demands that made it a slave to the old master; sin. You have no reason to obey the commands of your old master when you live with the new Master who guarantees you a better future. Feeding the desires your mortal self is to go back to the old master(sin), if so why claim a throne in the land of a new Master(God’s Kingdom) that you don’t want? To be crucified with Christ is to let go of the lusts(desires, hungers and thirsts) of your flesh.
The urge from all of these is to present all your members[components of your body(mouth or tongue, legs, eyes, all parts of your human body), senses of your being] as workable, valuable, useful instruments dedicated to the glory of the new Master(Christ and God). Have you been crucified with Christ? Then, all your members must devote to righteousness(holiness) for that is the way of our new Master; Christ Jesus, the Lord and our salvation.
Let the old man, let the master of the old man(sin) not be your ruler or commander since you have been purchased our of slavery into a royal hood by Christ Jesus who shared His throne with you and made you not a child just as He is of God. Embrace the new man and live in glory with it for God. Do away with the old man now and never return to it! I urge you Today but before that I ask, Have you been crucified with Christ? If you have then resist Sin Today and always.
Father LORD, give me strength to continue in my new life, an embraced life of Holiness to be the Hope of your Glory for another to follow.
