Unfortunately modern day Christianity treats God not as a deity but as a means to an end, and with utter disregard for God forgetting God Demands Reverence not to be treated as a common entity.
Why Reverence to God?
Most Christians don’t even know the place of reverence for God on their walk with God so they tend to give anything they feel He deserves or do anything they want because “if we don’t worship Him, He can’t worship himself”
But some of our behavior is an abomination to God. The way we treat him makes him look like an ordinary person instead of the divine one.
The modern day Christianity generally lacks Reverence or Fear of the Lord.
In Hebrews 12: 28, the Apostle Paul admonished the Hebrews saying “Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;“.
Our worship of the Most High, the Creator, The Master must be based on reverence and not duties.
In the story of Cain and Abel; the one thing that made the difference was reverence. Abel brought to God the firstling or fat or best portions of his field. Cain however brought what he found or felt he will give or God deserves.
In the below verses, The Bible tells clearly the demand for Reverence,
Genesis 4:3-4 – And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
Acts 9:31 – So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase.
1 Samuel 12:24 – Only fear the LORD and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.
What is Reverence?
- •1. A deep respect for someone(GOD) which shows in one’s attitude
- •2. To give someone an honor He deserves.
- •3. To obey someone for who is His or the role He plays.
How Must we Show Reverence to God?
- •1. Through Love
- •2. Through Obedience
- •3. Through Praises
- •4. Through Vows [ Jonah 1:16]
A sense of reverence for God will remind us of his presence with us, Make it easier for us to Obey Him. Reverence for God will Make it easier for us to sacrifice for His cause and give us an assurance of life and life after death.
