Coronavirus Affects US – 44 Americans – On February 3rd, The Diamond Princess cruise ship was quarantined after a Hong Kong man, who left the ship, was diagnosed with coronavirus. So far, 355 people on the vessel have been infected with the virus including 44 Americans. The ship has a roughly 3,700 passengers from the US, Canada, Italy, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan, which accounts for half of the number.
After the first two weeks of quarantine, governments have been trying to extract their citizens from the vessel.
Because the virus began in China and the outbreak threatens lives around the world, the country’s response to the crisis is a test of its international credibility. It could also have at least short term affects on the world economy should international trade be inhibited. Surely, tourism in and out of China will be negatively affected for months ahead.
