Isn’t it funny how Christianity has been made to look as if it is a call to be served instead of a call to serve? Is Christianity is a call to Serve God?
It is beginning to look as if Christianity is the only faith where the followers a waiting on GOD to serve them instead of they serving their God.
Churches today are telling believers to come and receive from the Lord. Come for marriage, house, your visa, etc. Come and the Lord will deliver you from all your enemies etc. These are the comments that have flooded Christianity today. These statements are partially true but not the complete truth in the Christian faith.
The absolute truth is that God call us to work for him and not work for us. The Bible says He first loved you; He sacrificed His only son, He forgave us, etc. do you think that God went through all of these so that we can come and be served?
Gen 1:26 Tells us that God made man to achieve certain specific objectives and this objective still stands even in this modern era. Therefore true Christianity must project his vision of the Lord.
Matt 4:19 speaks Jesus making us fishers of men after we have come to follow him. Is it strange how Christians are only made to follow Jesus but never grow to the stage of becoming fishers of men? If only you are following Jesus then you need to become a worker in his Kingdom.
James 2:14-24 Even so faith, if it hath not works is dead, being alone. This is one of the profound but short phrases in the bible. If a man has faith but won’t do anything with it then the faith is dead. The bible clearly speaks of Abraham who was a man of faith and also man of works. Abraham demonstrated his faith towards of through the things He did. The closing statement of the scripture was: a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone. To be righteous is to have a right standing with God and the bible says righteousness is made complete though faith and demonstration of the faith through works.
Rev 20:11-15: Speaks of book of life and the books which play different roles but unfortunately the book of life has been magnified as though it is the most important one. The reality is of this scripture is that while the book of life gives you access to enter the gates of heaven, the records in the books (your deeds or works) gives you a place.
Rev 22:11 also tells us of Jesus coming very soon with rewards for his followers. But the reward will be based on works.
These two scriptures are meant to remind the Christian that we need to work for the Lord. The Lord therefore is looking at our works.
Exodus 36:1-5 speaks of how God commanded that all the people not pastors alone must use the skills and abilities He has given them to work the work of the sanctuary. God did not have to come down to build the sanctuary but commanded it to be built because He had already prepared his people for it.
1 Cor 12:27-28 the bible talks of different gifts which have been given to the followers of God for His kingdom. Apostle, Evangelist and in addition, helpers, administrators etc.
Isaiah 6:8-9: The Lord was calling for someone to send and asking who will go and warn the people. Why did go visit the people himself? Because certain things are the domain of men.
John 6:1-14 Jesus fed the multitude with the bread and fishes of a little boy. Where is your bread and fish?
It is important to remember that:
- We are not saved by works but by grace which is demonstrated through faith in the works of our lord Jesus. But we show forth our righteousness through our works.
- Faith is freely given by the Lord (it comes through hearing the word of the Lord) but righteous must be demonstrated by the believer through his works.
- Christianity maturity is not the substance of things you have but the works you perform for the Lord.
- God will not come down to evangelize, build temples etc so that men will be saved because he has his followers to do that
- Some of us have been given the opportunity to get substances (money, cars, etc) so that we can be the solution of others in the house of God.
The church is the responsibility of Christians and not God. We don’t need to pray about certain things. An example is that we don’t need to pray about follow ups but have to just do it whenever we see a brother going out of the faith.
Don’t be a christian because of what you can get from God, be a Christian because of what you can give to God.
Let’s learn to put priority on the things of God and serve him wholeheartedly. Let our desire be to work for God.
