Waakye as breakfast, fufu as lunch and Indomie for dinner, Accra, Ghana’s home of food joints has you sorted out.
I will take you on a tour to all the joints my friends and I have visited in Accra.
Accra – Ghana’s Home Of Food Joints
Let’s start with waakye. My senior high year group like the waakye behind Koala Osu, the one near Rabito Clinic. The woman is a special friend of ours.
My good friend Elvis aka Black Weda like the waakye at Atomic. Mind you there’s Atomic Waakye and Hajia’s waakye. It’s Hajia’s waakye I’m talking about. It’s after Baritas right at Atomic First Bus Stop.
Perpetual, oh Yayra.. how I miss you. She likes the waakye opposite the defunct Allechino (hope I got it the spelling right). Right after the Shell on the Oxford Street.
Dearest Awurabena likes Alhaji’s Wife waakye on the Spintex road. You can call them on 0503238981.
When we’re out on Friday nights and we need to eat waakye, there are two places we go to. We visit Afta Work for Rockstone’s Waakye. We also use the opportunity to see Mama Zilla.
The second-night waakye joint is the one after Danquah Circle, before Prisons. She comes at 3 am. That waakye had saved our lives countless times.
The best “attieké” in Accra is served at Chez Clarisse. It’s a hideout not far from Mamma Mia Pizzeria and also not far from Buka in Osu.
Only OGs know this joint. Attieké with tilapia and fried plantains. Maame and Veronica took me there.
Buka Restaurant in Osu serves the best boiled ripe plantains with kontomire stew. Kontomire is the local name for cocoyam leaves. I found this out by myself.
Tasty Jerk in Osu has the best kenkey (GA kormi) and pork. The pepper isn’t child’s play. Again Perpetual introduced me this joint. They have moved to a new place on G.Y. Odoi Street in Osu. That’s down the road from Ace Tantra NightClub.
There’s another kenkey joint behind Papaye Osu, it’s in a house. Chale… Find it and see for yourself.
For Banku and tilapia, mine oh mine, the joints are countless. I can start with Duncan’s inside Osu, right after Republic Bar.
There’s also Azmera, located at Airport Residential Area not far from Adidas Ghana.
Philipos is another popular joint for banku and tilapia. They have branches almost everywhere.
Ayiwa Gh is located at Achimota not far from the Republic Bank. Another wicked banku and tilapia joint.
I can’t do this without adding jollof. Let me start with Red Chilli at Osu right after the old Tasty Jerk building. With 25ghc you’ll get jollof and goat meat.
Crossroad Bar located right opposite Royal Yacht and close to the SIC Insurance annex building. After 20 minutes your jollof is ready with either pork, turkey, fish or chicken.
The trendiest French restaurant in Accra, Le Grand Ecuyer has one of the best jollof. The jollof hits well with their goat, beef or fish. They also have flavour filled organic plugs for vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free customers.
They’re right opposite SIC Insurance or right before or after HoneySuckle Osu depending on which direction you’re coming from.
Do I need to talk much about Koffee Lounge’s jollof? Located them at A&C Mall.
I discovered Zen Gardens during one of my roaming sessions. At the junction where Elite Sports lane in Labone is where you’ll find Zen Gardens.
The jollof rice goes with avocado salad and smoked beef or fish. Call them on 0244933339.
There’s this beans or red red joint in Osu, sadly it doesn’t have a name so I call it Ghetto Beans. The taste is consistent.
It’s very popular. It’s a junction away behind Osu Ecobank. See, get there before it’s lunchtime because you’ll join a very long queue.
You can read about fufu joints in Accra.
The best street food spots are found hidden in some corner. This makes Accra Ghana’s home of food joints.
I will continue with this street food joints later. I have to run.
